Sustainability
THE FUTURE IS CIRCULAR
Our priority is to be a sustainable brand in every step we take. That's why each of our products is ethically made with recycled materials from ocean waste.
We know it's just the tip of the iceberg but believe every little step counts.
Because we want to raise awareness through slow fashion, each of our products is designed to spend not only one season with you but last for many seasons. That’s why we make our products using high quality Italian fabrics and timeless designs.
One of our most important values as a brand is that every decision we make is consciously thought out with the health of the planet in mind.
Our products are made in Bali, Indonesia. Our factory uses solar panels to reduce the carbon footprint, and all our packaging is biodegradable.
With each purchase, we support different foundations to clean up our oceans and create a better future for women and children. Helping women living on the street to rise out of poverty and be reintegrated into society. These foundations provide education, job training, and empowerment to marginalized young Indonesian women. Provide environmental training for children and youth, clean up the coastal waste, create awareness and share knowledge about sustainable waste management to reduce waste going to landfill and oceans.
ECONYL® is regenerated nylon.
Instead of using new resources, nylon waste from landfills and oceans around the world is being transformed into regenerated nylon. This material can be recycled, recreated and remolded again and again, avoiding further wastage.
Fishing nets are a huge problem in the oceans. Whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles and other marine life are being trapped by nets and plastic waste. Econyl uses this ocean debris to make a strong recycled nylon fabric that is not only turned into quality garments, but helps reduce pressure on the oceans and their inhabitants as well.
The ECONYL® brand’s vision is to make the world a better place by pioneering closed-loop regeneration processes and delivering sustainable products.
What is ECONYL?
ECONYL®, created by Italian firm Aquafil, uses synthetic waste such as industrial plastic, waste fabric, and fishing nets from oceans, then recycles and regenerates them into a new nylon yarn that is exactly the same quality as virgin nylon.
This regeneration system focuses on 6 steps that form a closed loop that uses less water and creates less waste than traditional nylon production methods. Waste is collected, then cleaned and shredded, de-polymerised to extract nylon, polymerised, transformed into yarn, and then manufactured into textile products.
ECONYL is a way to recycle and replace virgin nylon in our everyday products and clothes. Traditional production methods for nylon are not eco-friendly, they require huge amounts of water and produce a hefty amount of nitrous oxide, which is 10 times more potent than carbon dioxide. What’s more, nylon is not biodegradable, and it is estimated that up 40% of man-made plastic waste in the oceans are nylon.
What are the benefits?
- It can be recycled, recreated and remolded infinitely.
- For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL raw material, 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved and 65,100 tons of CO2 eq. emissions are avoided.
- It reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with the material made from oil.
- It’s a high-quality fabric that is as strong, durable, and flexible as the raw material.
- ECONYL can be blended with other natural or synthetic fibers like spandex and elastane to make it more elastic.
- It’s an ideal material for sportswear, as it is lightweight, water-repellant and has a high tensile strength. It also wicks away moisture and dries quickly.
- It’s easy to wash and care for.
